Flying on Solar Power
The Solar Impulse, an idea born in Switzerland is a long range solar powered aircraft flying across America. It’s composed of lithium polymer batteries, a 10 hp (7.5 kW) motor, a twin-bladed propeller, and 11,628 photovoltaic cells. The plane seats one.
According to the Associate Press, this is the first attempt by a solar plane flying both day and night without fuel to fly across the U.S. We hope that this experiment will bring awareness to the capabilities of solar power.
